Stuck Inside

It was really bound to happen one way or another, you know how word travels out here, so imagine germs and sicknesses spreading. It was only a matter of time, COVID-19 has forced us all into quarantine and "social-distancing". Even in deadly results, which is the daunting part of this all. So much uncertainty and confusion but yet we still got time for jokes about "Corona Time a.k.a Corona- the Mexican beer".

Trying to find motivation during this time can be difficult especially when many issues are being exposed due to the injustices that the government and white entitled people that make it harder for black/Latinx people to thrive. When there is only a finger pointed at you because of your race, where you live, or who you were with- there are no real helping hands in this system. Normal life does not exist, 'normal' is an idea we create to keep from believing that everyone is not the same. Not all of us have the same struggles, benefits, or chances. Yet, we're stuck inside and some of us may feel that there are a lot of things out of our control. That is not true, I cannot say how long we may be isolated but the voices are within us. Use your platform to get the results you want to see. There is no use in wanting to return back to how lives were before this pandemic because this time should really make you want to DEMAND that laws be changed and passed for the betterment of everyone struggling to keep living.

Women all over the world are thinking about what their bodies are capable of and how to show that their race is not the only thing that defines them. Our bodies are the only physical form of communication that we have to use in order to make an identity for ourselves. We are more than the flesh and skin; beneath that is a spirit. A spirit that exists in a body, the spirit makes us who we are. The 'body' part is what we're left to learn how to live with. Race was constructed to separate us- but now all we can prove with it is that it is used to kill. Whichever conversation that happens to lead with this idea can't move forward because 'race' is about knowing who is with you and who's left behind. The bodies we exist in connect us to the different elements that the Earth provides us. Spaces that make us feel apart of communities and experiences that expose us to the different ways that everyone else functions. No matter what race or skin color we have, those that don't have any melanin or indigenous traces visible by their bodies- DO NOT CARE. It takes one second to listen to someone instead of deciding that how they look like will determine if you respect them or not. Take the time to listen! To care! To see that our bodies make us who we are but not entirely because we all have hearts and if other people outside of our races who feel the need to act on their racist nature but not an ounce of compassion. Those are the people who are in the wrong.

Furthermore, begin those projects that you've been drafting. Find yourself in your passions or take a break from one passion to reflect on another. This time is up to you to understand your place in life.  Mine is choosing the time to create my first podcast series!

Para Las Mujeres- For the Women Podcast will begin by focusing on the BODY.

A few selected women who are dear to my heart will be exploring the interactions with their bodies and connecting how forms of expression influence the way in which they view their bodies. Also, analyzing the spaces that are welcoming their presence+craft and bringing awareness to what truths lead them towards a fruitful life.

Now that you have something to look forward to, I hope that everyone is having a safe and healthy quarantine. These times are odd, but they're useful in helping us reflect on what the next moves can be. Or to take a break from the fast-paced lives that most of us get caught up in forgetting to slow down.

Remember, your life is in your hands. You get to choose how to live it, all you need to do is start!
